Bike Season Begins: 2015 Easyriders Bike Show Tour, Columbus, OH

This past weekend the Easyriders Bike Show Tour came to the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, and for me, this officially starts my bike season! Even though the weather and streets are chilled and crappy, there are a number of biker events scheduled for the next month to feed my appetite to get me through till spring. But till then.......

Me & my Bro Colin
This year, like the year before, and the year before that, my Bro Colin and I met up at the show to gander at bikes & babes, see a few friendly faces we have not seen since the last show, and lay down a bill  or two for t-shirts and other goods. This year was a bit different, at least for me because the pics I usually take for my memory sake had to be prioritized because I was also there to take pictures for Ridn' On Motorcycle Magazine (www.ridinon.com/home/home.htm). So, the images I am presenting in this blog are not the prime choices of the batch because they were reserved for the magazine. With that said, I, like the times before, had a great time hanging out with my Bro!

While at the show I had the great opportunity to meet the awesome Kevin Bean're aka Bean're! If you are not familiar with the biker world, Bean're has become sort of a legend in his own right. Riding his purple Hog and wearing his most excellent top hat around the world. His travels has taken him across the U.S., Canada Europe, Morocco and Australia. We got to talk for a bit trading tales about ourselves, people we've met, and private islands. Bean're has written an autobiography about his life and travels  titled "Bean're: Motorcycle Nomad." I just started reading it, so, I cannot jabber too much about it besides I'm enjoyed the ride so far.

The Easyriders show this year, I have to say, was much better than last year. There were more bikes showcased, and a number of them actually looked like they hit pavement and were not just show pieces. It's not that I do not like the show bikes because I do, and I have been inspired to incorporate some of the ideas I've gotten from them on mine. But, the bikes that impressed me the most were the ones I know are hitting "Rubber to Asphalt!"

When all is said and done, this weekend was a good weekend, and I am ready to take my Hog out of the garage, put ass on leather, twist the throttle, and roll out some miles.

Keep Rubber to Asphalt!

Ridin' On Motorcycle Magazine Honored @ Motorcycle Ohio Conference

Have you ever worked some place, and had not ever met the people you are working for or any of your co-workers? Well, I have! I have been a contributor to Ridin' On Motorcycle Magazine based in Westlake, Ohio near Cleveland, Ohio for the past year, and until tonight had not met anyone I work with.

It was a great pleasure to meet everyone with the mag, chow down with them for "our family dinner" at Bravo! Cucina Italiana, and lastly but certainly not least, to find out that Ridin' On is the recipient of this year's Distinguished Service Award for an Organization at the Motorcycle Ohio conference.

To conclude, I want to thank Bill Bish, Darlene Bish, Shannon Frederick, James Micheal Godwin Sr,, James Michael Godwin Jr., Sharon Kay Godwin, Lou Denis Griggs, Paula Griggs, and Dar Grodi for making me feel welcomed and part of the Ridin' On Family!

MotorCycle Mob: Motorcycle Movie List – Whats your Favorite?

For all of you Biker Flick lovers out there, here is a cool list of Motorcycle Movies on MotorCycle Mob website. This page features movie titles from the 1970's to 1990's, and each title is hyperlinked to Wikipedia so you can read a bit about each movie. Unfortunately, Biker Zombies From Detroit is not on the list, I guess because the poster is a bit cooler than the movie, but it is still worth a watch and laughs.

Two Wheels + Motor: An International Exhibition

Via Con Dios by Manon Elder

If you have not had an opportunity to visit the American Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame in Pickerington, Ohio, I suggest planning a weekend to check it out. The Hall of Fame is somewhat small but is huge with motorcycle history. They have a great collection of road, off road, and racing bikes that spans from the early 1900s to the present; a gallery dedicated to the men and women who have made a major contribution to the motorcycle world; Bike Craft section exhibiting custom bikes; and lastly, a gallery area located on the lower level of the Hall, that is currently exhibiting artworks by local, national, and international artists, whose works deals with the multi-faceted world of motorcycles, titled Two Wheels + Motor: An International Exhibition.

Being a biker that is also an artist, I was pleasantly surprised when I first encountered this exhibit, and had to make a second and even third visit, to fully appreciate the incredible works of art on display. Some of the notable pieces that caught my eyes are Chrissy Mountkapp’s painting ‘Three Kings and Kat Nip’; Manon Elder’s tribute painting of Indian Larry titled, ‘Via Con Dio’; Troy Lee’s painting ‘Magoo’; Eric Herrmann’s tribute painting to the iconic movie Easyrider titled, ‘American, Always’; Mary Watt Yeadon’s ‘1967 Triumph Bobber’; and, Columbus, Ohio based artist Ken Goodson’s paintings ‘Rally In Sturgis’.

To be honest, I was impressed with the entire exhibition, but unfortunately, cannot list all the artists and artworks on exhibit. With that said, take some time from your schedule and plan to visit the AMA Hall of Fame yourself! Two Wheels + Motor: An International Exhibition will be up till March 31, 2015.
